Language is a culture’s map. It tells you where its people come from and where they are going. Rita Mae Brown
At MaestroMío, we believe that understanding Spanish culture, its historical legacy, and its roots is essential to learning the Spanish language. This is why we encourage our students to join us in our cultural experiences outside the classroom.
Our extracurricular activities aim to extend the language beyond the classroom and expose students to diverse situations. The primary purpose is to create appropriate environments that provide ideal conditions for practicing the language, socializing, and familiarizing students with the sociocultural aspects of the country they are immersed in.
Our school offers two different types of activities:
The first type takes place during regular class hours and consists mostly of excursions and visits.
The second type, outside school hours, is optional and involves cultural lectures.
All the activities organized by MaestroMío have been carefully thought out and planned to guarantee the active participation of the students.
We organize excursions and visits to historical places in Madrid, such as tours of Habsburg Madrid or Bourbon Madrid, as well as visits to different neighborhoods, such as Chamberí. These activities help students understand the Spanish spoken on the streets, enjoy the language, culture, gastronomy, customs, music, and history of Spain, become familiar with the city, and practice the language in real conversations with fellow students and locals.
We also host photography and video contests across the city.
Additionally, we offer more recreational activities that always prioritize practicing Spanish and learning about our culture, such as Spanish cooking classes, flamenco lessons, and visits to museums like the Prado or Reina Sofía.
In short, we provide a broad and varied cultural program as endless as the city of Madrid itself.
