Carmen Thyssen Museum
Baron Thyssen-Bornemisza, born in Scheveningen, came from a family with an impressive collection of artworks. His widow, Carmen Cervera, donated the collection to the city of Málaga, and part of it can be seen at the Carmen Thyssen Museum. The museum was developed by RG Arquitectos Asociados around the Palacio de Villalón, a 16th-century Baroque building that was partially reconstructed for the occasion. The exhibition spaces, consisting of three rooms for the permanent collection and two for temporary exhibitions, were newly constructed next to the palace, which houses the Old Masters collection. Overall, the museum covers 7,147 square meters, of which 5,185 can be used for displaying artworks. Inaugurated in 2011, the museum offers the opportunity to admire the diversity of Spanish art from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The single ticket is valid for visiting the entire museum (permanent collection and temporary exhibitions) and includes an audio guide service.
